Conceived and founded with co-host Prof. Henrietta Yurchenco, internet radio program devoted to the promotion and dissemination of local and vernacular musics of the world.  Conducted interviews with musicians and scholars and recorded live on air performances.  Used editing software for preparation shows each week.  Did extensive research for the preparation of each program.

Operated the sound board for radio programs broadcast on a national radio network.  Used audio recording and editing equipment and software for the production of broadcast material. 

Fund Raiser, Board Member and Promoter for African Cultural Center

The Akonting Center for Senegambian Folk Music, Mandinary, Gambia
Obtained 501c3 status, collected and distributed funds for cultural center.  Wrote, compiled and distributed informational packet and CD for cultural center containing field recordings and photographs.  Booked radio appearance on WBAI 99.5 FM in New York for primary field recordist and researcher.

While in Venezuela took still photos in the production of a short documentary composed of interviews with people local to one neighborhood.

Independent Study Researching and Writing Paper Series 2004

Intensive independently undertaken college course.  With only general faculty sponsorship, extensively researched and wrote a series of papers on Woody Guthrie as a public intellectual, the Popular Front, and aesthetics.  Interviewed Harold Leventhal, Jim Longhi, and spent time at the Woody Guthrie Archives in New York City.

Founder and Co-Manager of Jug Band                                    2001 - 2005
Jug Free America
Founded a 7-piece jug band, playing historically researched and original music in the styles of traditional jug band, blues, old-time country, reggae and New Orleans jazz. 

Developed performance engagements in a wide variety of venues in Ohio, New York, California, Oregon, Massachusetts, Virginia, and in Poland and the Czech Republic.  Managed tour details including transportation, housing, publicity, finances and recording.

Performed as singer and instrumentalist on banjo, guitar, harmonica and mandolin.
           
Conference Organizer                                                            2003 – 2004
Oberlin Alumni Folk Music Conference
Organized a reunion of more than 200 Oberlin alumni involved in the folk music field, including 20 seminars and workshops and several performances.  Raised more than $7000 for initial funding, organized media attention, booked travel and lodging for speakers and performers, assisted in collating the program content.

Lead groups of 5-25 children ages 8-16 in singing folk and popular music.  Taught guitar, drums and banjo to 12 individual students, preparing them for solo and group performance.

Selected content and presented weekly 2-hour radio broadcasts of live and recorded music as the “Country Bluegrass & Blues Show.”   Booked and interviewed guests including Mike Seeger, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, Dave Honeyboy Edwards and local musicians. 

Coordinated the cataloguing, scheduling, evaluation and presentation of newly-arrived folk, country and blues CDs for the station archive. 

Music Teacher                                                                        1999 - Present
Provided private music lessons to nine children, ages 10-19, and adults in guitar and banjo, with an emphasis on folk, blues and country music styles.
